We are historically a High Street General Practice, though in recent years, we have ceased to practice Criminal Law, or legally aided civil litigation, and increased our commercial practice. We retain a large and growing private client caseload. Our practice covers the following work areas:
- Commercial Property
- Residential Property Transactions
- Leasehold Property
- Commercial Litigation
- Property Litigation
- Employment Law
- Wills and Estate Management
- Trusts; Inheritance Tax
- Personal Injuries
- General Commercial and Contract work
- Civil Litigation
- Matrimonial Family and Childcare
- E Commerce and Data Protection
We hold an ISO 9002 accreditation, which certifies our management standards.
We are members of LawNet, an association of independent law firms covering the British Isles, which gives us access to a network of quality assured firms.
Trainees have 20 working days holiday p.a.
Trainees normally have four seats of six months each during their two year training period. They often sit in with a partner or senior fee earner. Trainees may be moved into a room by themselves during the last six months of training. Trainees are appraised in each department to check that the trainee feels that he or she is covering appropriate areas of work, and receiving a thorough training.
Trainees become involved in all areas of work including sitting in on meetings with clients, and others, drafting letters of advice, drafting documents, legal research, attending court, attending conferences with Counsel, and (as training progresses) having contact with clients.
We invite applications in August of each year for training contracts commencing in September two years later. In order to be fair to all, we do not consider applications received at other times of year until the August, and then we review all applications together.
We select a short list of potential trainees from written applications, and interview them in the morning of a day of interviews and then create a further short list of applicants, whom we interview again in the afternoon of the same day. We would then hope to write to the candidate chosen within one week offering a training contract, subject to references or other necessary contingencies.

On the day of the interview you would be shown round our office by one of our current trainees before your interview, and you would be able to discuss anything you wish with them.
With regard to general training within the firm, we participate in LawNet Training Days, the content of which are chosen by LawNet members so that training is always practical and aimed at current issues in legal practice. The local Law Society which covers Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire hold their lectures in High Wycombe, and these provide good updating lectures mostly given by College of Law lecturers in the main categories of work.
The general office opening hours are from 8.45am to 5.00pm with a break for lunch between 1.00pm and 2.00pm. There is an office meeting on the second Tuesday in each month when all executive staff including trainees are required to remain until 6.30pm. You may be expected to stay late beyond 5.00pm if that is necessary to finish work or to give good service to our clients in relation to particular cases. Trainees, solicitors and Partners participate in a post opening rota which involves arriving at work at 8.15 a.m. during the week on duty.
Thank you for your interest in our firm. Please contact Robert Hill if you need more information. |
