Enduring Power of Attorney

An EPA was the instrument used to plan for one's possible future incapacity before the introduction of Lasting Powers of Attorney in October 2007.

If you established an EPA before the 1st October 2007, or if you agreed to act as an attorney for someone else, there is no need to do anything - the EPA will continue to be valid.

An EPA was simpler and less expensive to establish than is the case with an LPA. However an LPA does make it possible to appoint an attorney(s) to handle one's Welfare & Social needs, something which was not really possible with an EPA.
