Employment law is ubiquitous and affects all employers, regardless of their size. It is quite easy, particularly for employers who do not have a specialist in-house human resources manager, to transgress the numerous rules and regulations. Such transgressions can lead to an employee (or ex-employee) taking their case to an Employment Tribunal, which could lead to adverse financial and other consequences.
The Employment Club was established some years ago to provide local employers with regular updates on the law (the Club meets quarterly) and to provide a forum for discussion on local and pertinent issues.
Objectives of the Club
The primary objective is to forewarn and forearm local business owners and employers about the continuing changes in legislation, regulations and new case law which affect employment, so that the Employment Tribunal (and its potential adverse financial consequences) may be avoided and good labour relations maintained wherever possible.
A secondary objective is to provide a forum for members to discuss their own employment issues and experiences with others.
Membership
Any local business is welcome to join. Membership is "corporate" not individual so that different and alternate personnel from member organisations may attend as appropriate.
Meetings
The Club meets quarterly for around two hours or so in the morning, usually on Tuesdays. Each meeting follows an agenda (published and distributed in advance) and there is time allowed for discussion and questions and answers.
Members also receive, via email, a copy of our monthly Employment newsletter.
Meetings are held at the High Wycombe Cricket Club just off London Road in High Wycombe.
Fees
We ask for a modest corporate fee of £100 p.a. to cover our incidental costs. Prospective members are welcome to attend a first meeting without obligation or cost.
The Club is run by partner and employment law specialist Robert Hill, aided variously by other colleagues as appropriate.
